Charlie Q&A

What styles of tattoos do you specialise in?

I specialise in black and grey realism. The subject matter of my tattoos could be anything like a portrait of a famous singer, an animal portrait, a depiction of a statue or one of my own custom portrait pieces. I like to add lots of layers into my tattoos to make them rich in detail and stand out from other tattoos. I also use a lot of contrast and saturation in my tattoos as I feel like it makes the healed piece hold up bolder and brighter, making my tattoos look fresh and solid for longer periods of time.

What influenced you to become a tattoo artist?

I am an artist in nature. Having been drawing since the age of 3, I became attracted to the idea of being a tattoo artist since I was very young. My dad has quite a lot of tattoos and I was always fascinated by them when I was a child. I am also very influenced by Punk and Hip Hop culture, in which tattoos are very prominent, so I think me wanting to become a tattoo artist stems from a mix of my own talent, and the influences around me when I was growing up.

What do you like to do when you’re not working?

When I am not working, I am always drawing and coming up with new creative ideas and designs. I have a hobby where I draw realistic portrait drawings of my favourite musicians and then sell them online. I’m also extremely passionate about music and fashion. I’m always discovering new musicians to listen to and I collect records as well. I also make my own music in my own time, so when I’m not creating something visually, I’m creating something sonically. I like to stay physically fit too, so I often go to the gym and go out for bike rides.
