Ear Piercings Trends for 2022

Ear Piercings Trends for 2022

We know, we know, it’s only November. But if Leicester Square and Covent Garden can throw up the Christmas lights from now, we can begin to dream of a brighter 2022 and all the body art and modifications to come in the new year. While the classics such as a perfectly placed lobe piercing or conch will always be classics for a reason, let’s take a look into the crystal ball of months ahead, and check out the predicted ear piercing trends for the year to come.

Personalisation and asymmetry

By Jodie from Vivid Ink Birmingham

If 2021 was the year of the personalised ear constellation, 2022 is sure to continue down the road of enhancing your very own unique style. As we have transitioned to working from home, our faces have come more into focus as we hang out in little digital boxes with colleagues rather than meet up for an in-between-emails coffee. And there have never been more ways to rock your own unique individuality.

Your grandmother may never have imagined it, but one of the strongest peaking trends when it comes to ear piercing next year is predicted to be asymmetrical approaches, with the two ears sporting different piercings or constellations. People who haven’t gotten pierced before may also choose to pierce just the one ear, creating a unilateral effect, which could be made even more striking with bold and dramatic jewellery in the ear that is pierced.

Industrial piercings

Now, industrial bars require a lot of aftercare attention and have a long healing period. However, more and more people are getting more and more ear piercings and becoming more and more familiar with the process of looking after them for longer. As such, this cool statement piece no longer feels like such a daunting task. Reminiscent of a little bit 90’s, a little bit of earlier punk, it is also evoking something a tad rebellious, which may feel especially attractive after a couple of years of conforming to extreme rules and restrictions.

Flat Helix

Those that already have a lot of select places pierced and are looking for something a little more original in 2022 may want to take the flat helix into account. These sit through the ‘flat’ surface of skin between your ear canal and cartilage. They heal in about six to twelve months, and you could make any constellation you like, as long as your anatomy allows for it.

If you do intend to add several pieces, let your piercer know so that they can plan the placement accordingly. If you want to be really trendy, you get two or three flat piercings, and rock mismatched jewellery in all of them. We’ll take a closer look at the trends of various types of piercing jewellery in our next instalment.
