Top Piercing Trends for Summer 2021

Summer is almost here. Well, you never know what the weather may get up to, but at least hats seem to be off. And we can finally have a semblance of social life again. As you know, Vivid Ink does not only host the most talented tattoo artists in the Midlands but is also home to some incredible piercers. So with lighter, warmer times ahead, what better time than now to have a look at the key trends leading the way in piercing for summer 2021? Particularly with some mask restrictions still in place and our smiles hid from view, there is no better way to showcase a little bit more personality.

As we emerge out of a trying year, many of us are yearning for change. While the first thing many consider when looking to bring some new energy to one’s appearance may be an updated wardrobe or a haircut (top tip, stay away from bangs unless you are absolutely sure), tattoos and piercings will keep you checking yourself out in the mirror and boosting confidence for much longer.

Constellations and ‘huggies’

While many ‘standard’ piercings are growing in popularity, artists predict that more and more people will ask for custom jobs as we become more inclined to celebrate our individuality and uniqueness post-lockdown. Rather than asking for a row of lobe piercings or multiple helixes, people are asking for creative ideas, such as more unexpected constellations and clusters, for an entirely personalised look. Also on the rise are tight-fitting mini gold hoops, called ‘huggies’. These preferably stack in a long row along the lobe and up around the cartilage of the upper ear.

Double nostril piercings

Nose piercings are decidedly not new, but there is a whole new trend taking social media by storm. With over 16.8 million views on TikTok, #nosechain is displaying people with double piercings in either nostril and a mini-chain suspended between them over the lower bridge/upper tip of the nose. Of course, if you opt for a classic septum piercing, you also have the option of connecting a chain to a corresponding one in your ear for an utterly dramatic effect.

Mask considerations

While face masks are still a thing, if you are in a profession where you need to wear and change one several times per day, this may be a good time to hold off on the cartilage piercings as constant mask removal may cause irritation to the skin.

However, you could still go a little higher than the ear lobe with an auricle piercing. This would also be an amazing time to go for a daith, tragus, or forward helix. The possibilities to customise your ears according to your own personality are huge. Body piercing appointments are filling up fast, so drop a line to your Vivid Ink studio and get booked in!
