Movie Casts With Matching Tattoos

Following an iconic female-led episode of Taika Waititi’s co-creation Reservation Dogs, the whole group of actresses who took over the episode as they traveled to a medical conference decided to get matching tattoos. The show’s star, Sarah Podemski, who plays Rita, and three of her co-stars – Jana Schmieding, Nathalie Standingcloud, and her sister Tamara Podemski, all got Navajo floral ink to celebrate the standalone episode of the show. And they are definitely not the first cast to get commemorative tattoos after completing a project.

LOTR cast

One of the most famous group cast tattoos was inked on the participants in The Fellowship Of The Ring (although this was an all-male crew). Orlando Bloom, Viggo Mortensen, Sir Ian McKellen, Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, Dominic Monaghan, Billy Boyd and Sean Bean all had the number nine in Tolkien’s Tengwar script inked somewhere on their bodies.

If you counted the names, you will have noticed that there are eight of them. That is because John Rhys-Davies, the actually kind of giant of a man who played the dwarf, Gimli, declined. However, his stunt-double got the tattoo instead, so no potential numerology curses.

Avengers Assemble

Five of the original six Avengers also got tattoos after finishing Infinity War and Endgame.  While not exactly matching, they all represent their MCU character. Scarlett Johanssen and Chris Evans reportedly got them first, followed by Robert Downey Jr and Jeremy Renner. Apparently, Chris Hemsworth was “bullied into doing it,” while Mark Ruffalo skipped the needle.

Meanwhile, another classic superhero and also later Avenger added his own as Tom Holland revealed a Spider-Man tattoo at the bottom of his foot while promoting Spider-Man: Homecoming. However, under-foot tattoos are notorious for fading quickly. We hope he gets something more long-lasting next time.

SKWAD

In another superhero universe, the actors from Suicide Squad got ‘SKWAD’ tattooed after finishing the first film in 2015. By

each other, no less. Many of them were done by Harley Quinn actress Margot Robbie, but apparently, Will Smith inked a fairly sizable version on Joel Kinnaman. The Swedish actor later said that his tattoo artist wife, Cleo Wattenström, would have done a much better job and that is was a “horrible idea,” however he was not being too serious and added jokingly that “you know, you don’t let a 47-year old man without his reading glasses tattoo you.” On his Instagram post-ink post, Kinnaman said the experience was like “watching a drunk baby fly a helicopter.”

China Anne McClain, Thomas Doherty, Dylan Playfair, and some of the dancers from the musical fantasy adventure Descendants 2 all got various forms of traditional anchor tattoos to honour their time as pirate crew.
