Tattoo Trends 2021 – Part II

Tattoo Trends 2021 – Part II

As New Year’s Eve parties and celebrations have been pretty much cancelled this year, let’s see 2021 in with a different kind of bang – the scheduling of the next tattoo kind. Nothing is more exciting than the thought of the next time the buzzing starts and the adrenaline kicks in and you know you are going to walk out a slightly altered human being than you came in. Or is that just us?

Maybe you are already entirely clear on what you would like to get next. But just in case you could use some inspiration, we have dived deep into the tea leaves of the internet to find out what they say will be the big trends in tattooing over the next year. Last week we found out about cover-ups and large-scale tattoos due to lockdown introspection and the realisation that life is to be lived, not merely planned. Now, we move on to…

As people search for meaning after one of the most turbulent years in modern history, we are bound to do what humankind has always done… turn our gaze upwards towards the heavens. Stripped of the usual busyness of everyday life, people have begun asking the bigger questions, such as how it is all connected, what is really going on with the Universe, and where we come from.

Even those not into astrology per se have been aware of significant celestial events such as Jupiter and Saturn coming within one degree from each other in what is called the “great conjunction” for the first time in 800 years. Comets, planets, stars, constellations and galaxies – prepare to see many extraterrestrial features on skin in the new year.

As tattoos become more and more accepted in the workplace (when we will go back, there is another matter), people are becoming less concerned with their visibility. While facial tattoos are increasing in popularity due to more and more celebrities such as Post Malone, Amber Rose and Chris Brown getting them done, we wouldn’t go so far as saying they are about to go mainstream just yet.

However, other visible places such as hands, fingers and ears are about to get more adorned in the year to come. Dainty finger and delicate ear ink is beautiful and can either express words with lettering or be purely ornamental. Meanwhile, because of their placement, they tend to need upkeep pretty often. If you want a design that will stand the test of time, opt for a slightly more substantial handpiece instead.
